There are many remote jobs online if you have the skills required. Look for jobs in digital marketing, advertising, social media marketing, photography, the list goes on and on. Don’t fret if you don’t have skills in any of these areas, it’s never too late to learn! Lynda is a great tool to start building skills and you can find classes on so many topics! Once you’ve built up some skills you can do freelance work or do what we do and venture out on your own online business with your own clients!

Another option is to find a job in a place you want to visit. Some ideas include becoming a dive master in Thailand, tour guide in Germany, nannying in Australia, teaching English in China, or doing volunteer work. So many of the people we’ve met on our travels actually use to be visitors just like us but instead of going home after they just stayed and found jobs they loved in the places they fell in love with.

Tax Write-Offs

If the way you make money requires you to travel, all or most of those travel expenses can be written off on your taxes!! We are able to write off plane flights, meals, gas/mileage, cameras, computers, internet costs, bus passes, the list goes on and on! When we utilize the tax write-off loophole, we find that we actually save more money when we travel, than when we don’t travel.

Of course, check with your country and see what the requirements are for your tax write-offs. In the US, in order to write off your plane flights etc you have to have a documented work engagement before you leave on your trip. There are several other rules so be sure to read up on it!

Live Minimally

We live in a materialistic age but to save money and travel freely you can’t get caught up in it.

We moved 4 times in the first 3 years of knowing each other, and each time we moved we started asking ourselves ‘why do we have so much stuff?!’ With each move, we either sold or gave away over 20 boxes of items, including sentimental items, clothes, etc. We found that we were truly happier when we had less clutter around us and we surrounded ourselves by only the things we truly LOVED. Picture your home or your room and imagine looking around you and you are surrounded by all items you ABSOLUTELY LOVE. We found that by letting go of materialistic things, we are able to live more freely and travel more freely. We believe this is the beginning and one of the most important steps to be able to travel full time.

One of our favorite books, which happens to be on this topic is ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up’. This book really has changed our perspective about the items we buy and use in our life and it truly is life changing! It’s the only book you need to become more minimalistic and more FREE.

We get it, its hard to see your friends or neighbor buy your dream car or go on the trip you always dreamed of. But if you follow all these steps we’re giving you, someday you can do those things too.

Right now, it’s important to go at your own pace. Maybe you want to live abroad for a year (or more) and you recently saw your sister travel to New Zealand and drop $10k on her two week trip. New Zealand is pretty freakin awesome, buuuuut guess what? You can live in Thailand for a year (or more) on that same $10k and reach your dream of living abroad! So just remember that when you try to keep up with someone else, it may look good in your photos or sound nice, but it may not help you reach your END GOAL. Always keep your end goal in mind and don’t bother with what anyone else is doing! A quote we love is “happiness begins where comparison ends”. Find happiness in your own journey.

1. Monetize your travel blog: If you are already traveling, why not record your adventures and suggestions on a blog! You can run ads on your blog or on your youtube videos and make money for each click or view you get.

2. Find sponsorships: If you have an upcoming trip, use your blog to get sponsorships from brands you love. You can get sponsored in so many different areas: snacks for travel, activities, rental vehicles, hotels, etc. This will make your trip so much cheaper.

3. Affiliate links: Sign up with brands that you love and use to advertise their products on your website. You’ll get paid a commission for each purchase your viewers make using your affiliate link. We only partner with brands we love and value and we encourage you to do the same
